The carton caused by the thicker “A” pit grain has better top and bottom compressive strength than “B” and “C”, but compared with “A” and “B” pit grain, the thinner “B” pit grain has better pressure resistance. “A” and “C” pit markings are used for the manufacture of cartons under pressure and packing pads are needed. “B” pit pattern is suitable for the capacity and space is more important, but the stack strength is less important on the carton manufacturing. “E” pit grain has the highest compressive resistance, but its shock absorption capacity is slightly worse, mainly used for carrying heavy offset (color printing) corrugated cartons.

Core paper can be made from semi-chemical pulp (which provides the best paper strength) or recycled paper, which is preferred by many manufacturers because of its low cost. Although the paper strength is not as good as the former, it can be improved by adding starch to the paper mill.
